Western Islands

Founded on newly created islands in the 17th century to accommodate artisans and seaman, this walk will lead you past beautiful restored warehouses, across charming wooden bridges and former shipyards, along houseboats and historic sailing ships to spectacular views of Amsterdam’s waterfronts.

You could end the excursion in a cosy café or if you prefer in the vicinity of Central Station Amsterdam.

Interesting for everybody!
★★★★★
We really enjoyed the architecture excursion through the Eastern Docklands. Our group of architects, urban planners, traffic experts and engineers had an informative but also very pleasant afternoon. According to us this excursion is not just for experts but is also very nice and interesting for everybody else.T. Douma / Gemeente Sneek
You get to parts of Amsterdam you wouldn't normally go to
★★★★★
More than two interesting, entertaining and informative hours!! You get to parts of Amsterdam that you wouldn't normally walk to. It was very relaxed walking and listening to the guide. Also the organization by Local Experts was spotless, to the point without surprises. Don't hesitate to book a guide for say 2 hours and you really experience the city in a completely different way! A great day!
★★★★★
We had a really good time! You made it a great day. Roel knew how to strike the exact right note and his distinct interest in and knowledge of (the history of) Amsterdam are a relief compared with the average city guide. T. van Zwet
