Islands and Canals

During this cruise we combine the beautiful old city with modern architecture on the islands of the Eastern Docklands. It’s a spectacular tour along the best of two worlds; alternating new and less known parts of Amsterdam with the intimacy of historical buildings and warehouses along old canals.

Islands and Canals

We welcome you on board of a Amsterdam canalboat fitted with all modern conveniences. We leave from Central Station and than sail to the Eastern Docklands with the harbour islands. Here modern architecture attracts international attention. From the water we have a magnificent view of the colourful houses, small canals and impressing new buildings of this former harbour area.

Than we sail to the old parts of Amsterdam, via 17th century islands, a shipyard and warehouses to the river Amstel with its beautiful view on bridges, houseboats and old ‘leaning’ houses. On our way back we pass the medieval and very lively heart of the city sailing through some of the oldest canals of Amsterdam.

Just right for our group!
The reactions of the participants were unanimous; they all loved it. Especially the amusing way in which the information was brought was appreciated very much. I consider this a great compliment! After the boattrip we had a nice dinner. Just right for our group! Thanks very much and maybe till some other time...... Mw. Meinders
Interesting for everybody!
We really enjoyed the architecture excursion through the Eastern Docklands. Our group of architects, urban planners, traffic experts and engineers had an informative but also very pleasant afternoon. According to us this excursion is not just for experts but is also very nice and interesting for everybody else.T. Douma / Gemeente Sneek
You get to parts of Amsterdam you wouldn't normally go to
More than two interesting, entertaining and informative hours!! You get to parts of Amsterdam that you wouldn't normally walk to. It was very relaxed walking and listening to the guide. Also the organization by Local Experts was spotless, to the point without surprises. Don't hesitate to book a guide for say 2 hours and you really experience the city in a completely different way!
